GE Appliances to create 100 jobs at new Georgia distribution center
GE Appliances is bolstering its presence in Georgia with a $55 million investment in a new Southeast Region Appliance Distribution Center.
Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday that the household appliances manufacturer will create 100 jobs at a new warehouse in Jackson County's Commerce, with construction expected to be completed by April 2019.
Louisville-based GE Appliances, owned by Chinese conglomerate Haier, already has a strong presence in Georgia. The company employs 1,960 workers at Roper Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary in LaFayette, and 50 employees supporting its Factory Service Operations based out of Atlanta.
Mark Shirkness, vice president of distribution for GE Appliances, said the Northern Georgia facility will add to its network of appliance distribution centers across the country.
“The Southeast Region Area Distribution Center will join the largest distribution network in the appliance industry with the ability to deliver products in three days or less to 90 percent of U.S. homes," Shikrness said in a news release.
City of Commerce Mayor Clark Hill said GE Appliance's investment will help open the Highway 98 Corridor and support Commerce City Schools.
