Transforming the Way We Do Business
“E2E” (End to end) means we must look at/manage our product lines and services from end-to-end, from concept to design, manufacturing, sales, service (and everything in between) right down to business profitability. Owner is boss.
Brigitte Mader-Urschel Zoneline Commercial Director : Very exciting to see the change in our thinking. There is now a real growth mindset with us on micro-enterprise.
Carolina Krupp (Commodity Sourcing Senior Manager, Air Conditioning): Before the enterprise, we used to work independently. Um, the new process, the new enterprise has brought us together, it helps us come together to collaborate and work towards the same common goal.
E2E Cooking Innovating Like Never Before
Tracy Payne Squyres (Executive Director, Product Technology): One thing that we’re doing differently in part of our E2E model is really utilizing the experience curve. We’ve tried to focus on how do we bring better performance to our consumers for the Café brands and Profile and GE, and understand what each consumer really wants in terms of performance and versatility.
Brian McWaters (Senior Commercial Director)– Built-In & Ventilation: E2E really plays a role in the Profile LCD wall oven program because it puts a lens on what’s needed to win for that particular product line in the market. It really keeps us focused on what’s going to be a leadership product in the market and how do we get it to market as quickly as possible.
E2E Zoneline Knowing the Customer Better than Anyone
Brigitte Mader-Urschel (Zoneline Commercial Director): Having the end-to-end view for our Zoneline Micro-enterprise team really allows us to have a holistic view to what the customer needs. It helps us to maximize the customer benefit while minimizing our cost and really make sure that we get the best financials, the best customer benefit and ultimately grow on market share.
Jim Rawson (Director, Engineering – Commercial AC Technology): The E2E or the end-to-end is really trying to grow the entrepreneurial spirit, and establishing a relationship that adds value.
Traditionally, with large companies, you have departments, you have engineering, you have production, distribution, and sales, with the end-to-end trying to break that mold to become more nimble, like a small business. And so, uh, the engineering team is wearing many hats in addition to design the product going out into the field and better understand their needs.
The “Let’s Own Louisville” initiative is a grassroots idea to reach out to hotel owners, assisted living facilities in our own backyard, have these engineers visit them, spend some time with them and understand their wants and needs.
Tia Benton Pollard (Principal Manufacturing Quality Engineer): We interface directly with the customer, whether it’s providing factory tours or lab tours or making site visits at the hotel property. We’re all focused on the customer and their ownership experience.
E2E Refrigeration
Aligning to Business Priorities to Innovate with Purpose
Dave McCalpin(VP, Product Management):I feel like we have much greater alignment as a result of E2E around our Advanced Development priorities. And our Advanced Development priorities are the new ideas and the innovations we’re going to bring the market that will help us achieve the longer-term growth, brand strategy and objectives that we have for the business.
Stephanos Kyriacou(Director, Engineering – Refrigeration Advanced Systems):The products that we are working on and the innovations that we come up with are directly related to the consumer because of the interactions that we have with the Industrial Design Organization (called IDO) and with the product management group.
Lauren Platts(Senior Industrial Designer):An example of an E2E alignment between IDO and Advanced Development would be the two concepts: one, being the tilt-down drawer front, which is an improvement on accessibility for the multidoor line. And the indoor freezer or convertible compartment door-in-door for the bottom freezer line that allows you to have a shallow storage on the door that can be a refrigerator or a freezer.
E2E Clothes Care
Delivering for the Customer to Win Business
David Wilson:(Senior Commercial Director-Clothes Care): Aaron’s is a massive opportunity for us in the laundry business.
Aaron’s gave us a proposal for the business and in 24 hours we had to come back to them and say yes. We got aligned with the product team, with the commercial team, and the sales team to say here’s what the answer is, here’s what it means to our business.
The E2E process really allows for that speed and that efficiency to make bets and to say yes to our customer a lot quicker and more often. We can’t do things the way we were doing them if we’re going to hit the goals and hit the benchmarks our business expects from us.
E2E Dishwasher
Putting the Owner First Across Functions
Luther Ingram(Director, Manufacturing Operations – Dishwasher – Assembly): The Café Pro-handle was a great example of E2E because we really took into consideration the in consumer as well as the entire pipeline, all the way back to sourcing, quality and manufacturing the whole piece.
Adam Nallenweg(Senior Director, Op Finance – Dishwasher): I think we know our consumers better than we’ve ever known them before through work such as the consumer experience curve which has really allowed us to understand what our consumer wants, what they’re willing to pay for it, and how those features can really help drive results for the business. We’re really inspired to grow to be the market leader in the dishwasher industry.
E2E Room Air Wowing the Customer
John Desmarais(Commercial Director – Window A/C, Portables & Dehumidifiers):The way that we explained to Lowe’s the benefits of E2E was to show the organizational chart of our whole team in the retail room air business working toward a common goal to not only defend our market position, but to grow our market with Lowe’s, especially.
I think it really reflected the nimbleness, the entrepreneurial approach, the collaborative approach of working with them.
Nicole Culver(Commercial Director – Water Filtration, Compacts & Freezers): We've been able to stand up four brand new distribution centers for Lowe's for the room air conditioning program. We launched 15 new products, including exclusive models for Lowe's, which was very important for them.
Brandon Schaefer (Director, Product Management – Dishwasher): Two years into this journey with Haier, every day we wake up and, and it’s about winning. It’s about winning with our owners. It’s about winning as a team. It’s about growing our business and advancing. It’s about better products. I want to have the best in the world.
